To the Workers of Sizzle Pie East

On Thursday, January 9th, you accomplished something incredible: you unanimously won legal status as a union! Four months after you marched on the boss and demanded to be heard, you made them listen!

They said they “respected” your right to form a union and to an election but they ignored your demands and delayed, delayed, delayed! When that didn’t work, they tried to intimidate you by firing four of your coworkers! But those weren’t their biggest mistakes: their biggest mistake was underestimating your power and your solidarity! All of their money and dirty tactics could not stop you.

Now the situation is different; you have entered a new stage of the struggle. you now have to struggle to secure a contract. This will not be an easy struggle, nor will it be a quick one. you have to anticipate that they will continue to ignore, delay, and deny you the dignity you deserve as workers — as human beings. But this struggle will not be won at the negotiating table: it will be won through your collective action! Applying consistent pressure on the owners is the only chance you have of getting our coworkers’ jobs back. It’s the only way to win better jobs for all of you!

Your struggle is part of something a lot bigger. Workers across the US are sick of being exploited and are waking up from the vampiric nightmare of capitalism. Workers at Starbucks, Amazon, Waffle House — our local workers at Fried Eggs, New Seasons, Laughing Planet, Voodoo and Burgerville; they’re all joining together, standing up, and taking the fight to the capitalists. But you can’t stay isolated because all of these struggles are connected — they’re all part of the working class struggle.

We will win this struggle by building socialism, by seizing the means of production and bringing them under the control of an organization of the entire working class — a collection of workers councils representing every workplace and community.

What that means concretely, is that you and your coworkers will be connected as a democratically run organization. And that organization will be connected to workers in other parts of the city and other parts of the country. This network of workers councils will democratically and collectively determine how your workplace and your community is run.

If all of us workers join forces and coordinate our struggles, we can build a society where our hard work goes to things that matter, things that make the world a better place. Together, you can fight for a world where the value produced by your collective labor lifts everyone up, instead of being used to drop bombs on Gaza. Through your collective efforts, your shop has taken a great step forward towards establishing revolutionary democratic control by the working class! There are many more steps to come, and the cadre of the Multinational Communist Party are dedicated to standing with you arm in arm! We admire and salute you!

In Solidarity,

The Multinational Communist Party
