Why Have US Marxist-Leninists Abandoned Base Building?
Recently, there has been discussion about the absence of base building or “mass work” – deep organizing within the working class to prepare for socialist revolution – among Marxist-Leninist Parties in the US. But the construction of a mass base is a precondition for any socialist revolution, and in previous movements it was taken as a given that this mass work would make up the bulk of any communist party’s effort.

Across the country, cadre in the Multinational Communist Party encounter workers who echo the same refrain, “No one wants to organize! I can’t get my coworkers to take action! I don’t have the time or energy to do this!”
None of this is true. What saps your energy is that you are mired in defeat, lost in the woods with no signs to show the way. It’s time to free yourself.
Towards a General Strike
The road to revolution will be paved by the general strike, a devastating weapon in the hands of the working class. Despite the many half-hearted calls for a general strike in recent years — which both underestimate the necessary level of organizational preparation while overestimating the required scope — the general strike is of extreme revolutionary significance.
